Claring Lake Golf Club HistoryThe Carling Lake Golf Club is nestled in the Laurentians and laid out in the heart of a grandiose natural setting amid mountains, lakes and trees. At the turn of the 19th century, the actual site of the golf club was a farm owned by the Carlin family. In 1961, the famed golf architect Howard Watson designed a full 18-hole course in replacement of the original 9-hole. Four years later, the Ayers opened the course that became famous here and abroad and collected numerous awards and honours throughout the years. Forty-five years later, amateurs and pro golfers are still defied and charmed by its unique holes seemingly carved from the wild nature. In January 1984, the Ayers family sold 7000 acres of real estate to the German businessman Herbert Hillebrand, including the Carling Lake Golf Club. This same year, Mr. Hillebrand signed up the professional golfer Jean Millaire to a 20-year contract, who in turn joined with Louis Michaud and André Gagnier in a partnership to operate it as a public course, as it known today. Finally, Herbert Hillebrand completed in 1992 the construction of Hotel Carling Lake, bordering on the golf course first hole. The 97-room hotel harbours a fine cuisine restaurant, meeting rooms, training facilities, inside pool, sauna and whirlpool. |
